West Coast Way In Full Bloom

West Coast Way In Full Bloom

West Coast Way is South Africa’s road trip with the most twists (and flowers).

Whether you want to plan and guide your own road trip, or prefer an expertly guided Flower Tour or Berg River Cruise, springtime offers breathtaking sightseeing of the Cape West Coast’s wildflowers.

During August and September, and with the sun high in the sky (between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm is best), there is a multitude of flowers spots to explore.

West Coast Way has a bouquet of budget-friendly solutions for South Africans, which makes visiting the West Coast perfect for enjoyable family-friendly holidays and long weekends.

Top Flower Spots On The West Coast Way – Now Open!

Blaauwberg Nature Reserve is the official beginning of the Cape West Coasts rich biodiversity. From here you can see two World Heritage Sites – Table Mountain and Robben Island.

Whether it’s a championship golf course, complete with springbok roaming the fairway fringes, the green fynbos belt stretching into the very heart of the estate, or the expansive Melkbosstrand Blue Flag beach, at The Lodge at Atlantic Beach you’re guaranteed a prime stay in one of South Africa’s most sought after nature settings. From here visitors can drive out for the day to see Darling’s wildflower reserves, taste wine at Groote Post, craft beer at Darling Brew, and enjoy the hospitality of Evita se Perron. Further afield awaits Riebeek Valley – also known as the Shiraz Valley of South Africa.

Book three week-day nights, and pay only R765 per night for two people sharing including breakfast in 4-star Deluxe Rooms. To book call The Lodge on 021 553 4653 or email enquiries@thelodgeAB.co.za

Postberg Flower Reserve is one of the most visited and famous flower spots in the Cape West Coast.  Even though its part of the West Coast National Park, which is open seven days a week, Postberg is only open from 1 August to 30 September.

The West Coast’s vibrant nature diversity is found in white beaches with blue lagoon water, khaki-green fynbos, and deep orange and rose sunsets peppered with birds of prey. This is especially true when you stay at privately owned nature reserve Thali Thali Game Lodge, located 25 minutes from Langebaan Lagoon and sitting cozily next to the West Coast National Park, where Postberg is located.

Thali Thali offers visitors the perfect opportunity to connect with nature with their 3 for 2 mid-week accommodation deal at R3000 for all three nights per two adults sharing. To book call the Thali Thali team on 082 372 8637 or email info@thalithali.co.za.

Bokkomlaan in Velddrif is your happy flower spot on the West Coast Way with loads of birds, bokkoms, and bubbly when you book the three hour flower weekend boat trip with Cracklin’ Rosie River Tours.

And if you want to stay longer and ON the beach then we recommend a stay at Wamakersvlei Beach Farm (call 083 527 7967). Wamakersvlei is a historic fisherman’s village from yesteryear and offers guests the opportunity to book three week-day nights but pay only for two nights.

Verlorenvlei is a natural heritage site in Elands Bay, and stretches from the upper reaches at Redelinghuys, 30km North, and flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Elands Bay. Verlorenvlei is renowned for its prolific birdlife (+180 species), indigenous Fynbos, flora & fauna, and unspoiled nature.

Stay right next to Verlorenvlei, when you select Vensterklip Guest Farm and Restaurant (call 022 972 1340). Here you can camp, stay in cottages or in beautiful Manor and historic Houses. This nature gem offers guests the opportunity to book three week-day nights but pay only for two nights.
