2020 should have seen the 3rd edition of the Cape Town Jewish Literary Festival (JLF). With the first two being sold out events, many literature, journalism and storytelling lovers were left unsatisfied.

To our luck, participating authors and writers, as well as festival organisers, prepared talks and stories they still wanted to share with audiences. That in its turn brought talk hosts and writers to conduct online discussions about the latest topics and books published and the newly curated JLF@HOME

The topics and participating authors in sessions that took place during May 2020 include:

  • Tamar Hodes author of The Water and the Wine in conversation with Beryl Eichenberger;
  • Terry Kurgan, author of Everyone is Present in conversation with Richard Freedman
  • Thomas Harding, author of Legacy in conversation with Linda Hackner; and
  • Jonny Steinberg, author of One Day in Bethlehem in conversation with Jonathan Ancer.

Videos for the above sessions and some memorable and relevant discussions from previous years are available on the festival website at http://jewishliteraryfestival.co.za/2020-festival/video/ . They provide a unique way, never available before, to know and learn about South African writers, their current work, the subjects they explore and highlight in their books and novels and a glimpse into their written work when considering your next read.

New discussions are expected during June 2020.
