Founded by winemakers from across the Cape Winelands and fondly adopted by an even bigger spread of Shiraz producing wine estates, this event is a series of unique creations and pairings that brings together talents and innovators among wine producers and chefs.

From 10 to 16 of June, specially designed experiences are offered as a pop-up at some of the most known restaurants and tasting rooms in our wine routes.

The De Grendel Shiraz & Venison Dinner will be hosted on 12 June.

The famous award winning restaurant that is located along the Durbanville wine route and enjoys a stunning view of Table Mountain, will serve a special 5 course food & wine pairing menu that will be hand crafted by Chef Ian Bergh to complement the amazing wines on the evening.

Only 60 seats are available at R850.00 per person.

Aan Tafel Kontrei Restaurant at Diemersfontein Wine & Country Estate in Wellington will celebrate every day from 11-17 June.

The menu promises Braised Venison shank served with your choice of – Curried Butternut Biryani with a coconut cream sauce OR Sautéed wild mushroom and rice pilaf served with a side of pumpkin puffs. The offer includes a glass of the Diemersfontein Shiraz at R195.00 per person.

The second option is a pulled venison with a sesame slaw served of a cumin naan bread with matured white cheddar and a side of deep-fried root vegetables, includes a glass of the Diemersfontein ‘Harlequin’ Shiraz/Pinotage blend at R150.00 per person

La Motte in Franschhoek Special Syrah Tasting will part the regular line-up in the estate’s Tasting Room.

The La Motte Syrah Tasting will consist of four wines presented by one of the estate’s well-informed and enthusiastic Wine Tasting Ambassadors, showcasing the diversity and versatility of this exceptional variety: 2009 La Motte Shiraz, 2016 La Motte Syrah, 2016 Pierneef Syrah Viognier and 2013 Hanneli R.

Visit the La Motte Tasting Room from Monday, 10 June to Saturday, 15 June 2019 between 09:00 and 16:30 and ask for the La Motte Syrah Tasting. Cost: R120

The much-anticipated highlight of the week is presented on Thursday, 13 June. Cellar master, Edmund Terblanche, Chairman of Shiraz SA, will introduce guests to Syrah’s friends in blends while Chef Eric Bulpitt will treat guests to Syrah’s friends in food, both on the estate’s lunch menu as well as on the award-winning Friday morning Wine & Food Tasting.

The Nederburg wine farm near Paarl will be serving up a heart-warming winter feast of Shiraz and game meat at The Red Table restaurant from 10 to 16 June.

Offered individually, or as a set menu at R395 per person, guests can sit back and relax in the warm and inviting atmosphere of the historic manor house, where The Red Table restaurant is situated, while savouring a starter of springbok gravadlax served on a blini with Shiraz-infused blueberry compote and crème fraîche (R115 individually); a main course of springbok loin with sweet potato gnocchi, roasted root vegetables and Shiraz jus (R225 individually); and/or a dessert of red wine and dark chocolate cake with Shiraz-poached pear (R95 individually).

The main course is served with a complimentary glass of Nederburg’s velvety soft Manor House Shiraz 2016 that abounds with rich dark berry and cherry flavours and spicy notes of cinnamon and clove.

Visit the Nederburg Visitors’ Centre, a short walk from the manor house, for a complimentary tasting of Nederburg’s The Winemasters Shiraz 2017 and Manor House Shiraz 2016, with a delicious serving of cubes of dark chocolate marquise with Turkish delight rubies.

The Red Table restaurant’s special offer during Seven Days of Shiraz & Venison is only available from 11 to 16 June (Tuesday to Sunday), while the Visitors’ Centre tasting is on offer for the entire seven days, from 10 to 16 June (Monday to Sunday).

Past experience proves that reservation is well advised during this special week to avoid disappointment, especially since Father’s Day being celebrated on Sunday, 16 June.
