a funny and poignant play based on the 2003 film of the same name, starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, which tells the inspiring and true story of the ladies of a Women`s Institute who sparked a global phenomenon in 1998. When one of their husbands dies of leukaemia, the ladies decide to create a calendar to raise funds to buy a new settee for the hospital`s waiting room. However, unlike previous calendars featuring bridges and landscapes, this one will feature the women discreetly posing nude and barely covered by strategically placed cakes, teapots, flowers, knitting and a piano. The calendar is a surprising success and quickly sells out. The resulting media attention and publicity eventually takes its toll and the Calendar Girls find themselves more exposed than they had ever planned.
