A LUST FOR LUXURY

A LUST FOR LUXURY

Starting with a winning location on one of the major junctions in the Cape Winelands, where the R45 meets the Klampmuts-Simondium Road, en route to Franschhoek, continuing with award winning wines and an acclaimed chef restaurant, adding the uninterrupted panoramic vistas over the Simonsberg-Paarl mountains, Vrede en Lust wine estate designers over the years made sure every visitor will benefit from its advantages.

Day visitors can get to the estate by vehicle or by hopping off the Purple & Orange lines of the Franschhoek Wine Tram.

Although comprising a large tasting facility, clever design and setting serves an overall private feel with a series of lounges and seating arrangements that can host different group sizes, all spilling into a large veranda that is leveled with the top of the estate vines – a green, dark red or brown leafy sea, depending on the season you visit.

The tasting room serves White, Red, Rosé and Prosecco from both their Paarl & Elgin vineyards, accompanied with platters or paired with Lindt chocolate. Weather permitting, and when the accommodation area is not booked for an exclusive function, the hosting staff might allow you to indulge in the beautiful formal garden set on the other side of a small, secluded bridge.

Crossing the bridge also brings one to the accommodation, weddings and conferencing side of the estate.

The historical Manor House was beautifully restored after it caught fire in 1955. It is a modern fitted 4 bedrooms that can be either rented as a whole or accommodate a bridal party when a wedding takes place on the estate. The lush dining room will host an indulgent breakfast supplied by Lust Bistro & Bakery, the estate’s resident restaurant.

On one side of the Manor House there are three 2 bedroom cottages, named after the children of the first estate owner, furnished to serve welcoming country luxury, including a small kitchenette.

Further down the grounds the large pool house includes a sitting area, a bar and modern conference rooms. It also leads to the luxury vineyard rooms – a u-shaped complex, surrounding a pretty, small garden and looking out to the vineyards and the surrounding mountains. They all boost what is referred to as Modern Vineyard style.

Going back to the other side of the Manor House, the old tasting room and the fully covered large balcony attached to it is the venue to host the party of your dreams. It can hold up to 100 guests and it is wrapped by manicured lawns and totally private and fully catered in house.

When choosing to celebrate or stay at Vrede en Lust you are also provided with access to mountain bicycle renting to meander around, horseback and carriage riding in collaboration with wine valley adventures and even using the estate platform as a starting point to your Wine Tram adventure. All by pre-arrangement.

Although dinner is not offered to overnight guests, a group of conference attendees or a wedding party will be treated to a Braai dinner (South African barbeque) at the pool house.

Lust Bistro & Bakery is headed by Patron Chef Jean Pierre Smith and carries the love for the use of local ingredients. It is continuously attended by locals that enjoy the fresh, seasonal menus. It is open from early hours and serves breakfast and lunch every day. The Bakery offers artisanal breads and treats, cakes, homemade jams, preserves and oils.

Vrede en Lust hospitality ethos and the extensive range of offers and possibilities to indulge makes it a repeating distention among frequent visitors to the Cape Winelands. If you haven’t been yet, you should make a plan.
