Design Indaba, the internationally acclaimed creative conference, will take place in Cape Town from Wednesday 27 February to Friday 01 March 2019 and will once again set the standard for creative excellence, innovative entrepreneurship and lateral solutions-based thinking on global design and social challenges.
In keeping with the Design Indaba ethos – a better world through creativity – the upcoming conference promises to inspire design activism through compelling presentations that combine career-changing insights and cutting-edge work. From architecture and industrial design to pop culture, emerging technologies and environmental problem-solving, the 2019 edition offers inspiration and insights across industries.
Our speakers for next year include pioneering South African comedian, Kagiso Lediga. Also joining us will be global advertising superstar David Droga, experimental Dutch designer Joris Laarman, legendary architects Dong-Ping Wong and Annabelle Selldorf and Afro-futurist Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahui.
What to Expect at the Festival?
The Artscape Theatre and Piazza is transformed into a hub of creativity to be discovered.
Conference Talks: 3 days of back-to-back talks from internationally acclaimed creative thinkers across disciplines, featuring graphic design, architecture, business, marketing, branding, costume design, experience design and many more. (Open to conference delegates)
Emerging Creatives Exhibition: The Emerging Creatives Program is a developmental platform for young creatives who have relatively little industry exposure. Meet the 2019 class of Emerging creatives through their exhibitions at the conference and festival. (Open to public)
Most Beautiful Object Exhibition: Each year Design Indaba engages South Africans with the question of what constitutes beauty. While some may think of beauty as an aspect of personal taste and others know it on sight, beauty becomes far more profound when attributes such as cultural significance, sustainability, artisanal craft and usability are thrown in the mix. Discover the 2019 nominations for the Most Beautiful Object in South Africa at the featured exhibition. (Open to Public)
Masterclasses: Evening masterclasses in a ‘take what you need’ format, taught by experts across disciplines. Masterclasses are open to conference delegates as well the public. (Some classes are free whilst others may require an entry fee)

Sunset Sessions on the Piazza: Artisanal Pop-up stores, food trucks, bar services as well as live performances are open to both conference delegates and the public every evening.
