SUMMER OF CHAMPIONS

The Summer of Champions season runs officially from December 15th, to the much anticipated Sun Met on the 26th January 2019 and right up to the Prawn Festival at the end of February 2019.
This means that there will be at least 16 weeks of fabulous horse racing, entertainment for the whole family, hospitality and dining experiences.
With nine races carded, including the Grade 2 Western Cape Fillies Championship and the Grade 3 Cape Classic, class horses will be the order of the day. The Work Riders’ Spring Challenge for 2018 is the opener.
15 Dec- Cape Guineas & Cape Fillies Guineas
Renewed in 2017, this race will see 3 year olds race for R1 000 000 at the end of the day.
4 & 5 Jan- L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Racing Festival
Molded on famed international racing festivals such as the Qatar Goodwood Festival and Royal Ascot, the running of the 158th Queen’s Plate and third year of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Racing Festival.
Both ladies and gentlemen are required to dress in a manner appropriate to a smart occasion adhering to the dress code of blue and white. Outfits should be elegant.
26 Jan- The Sun Met
Brings racing enthusiasts and fashionistas together to celebrate and witness the thrill of Africa’s Richest Race Day. Expect world-class horse racing entertainment and equestrian-inspired elegance.
23 Feb- Vasco Prix Du Cap- Cape Town prawn Festival
The Vasco Prix Du Cap provides the backdrop for the Cape Town Prawn Festival, which became a highlight for foodies and racing fans alike.
In addition, this summer will see the Galileo Open Air Cinema popping for screening under the starts at the racecourse with the following dates:
22 Nov- Armageddon 20 Dec- Moana
17 Jan- Two Weeks Notice 21 Feb- The Departed
21 March- Hairspray 18 April- Bridesmaids
