Located in the vibey, new business district of Century City (CC), the CC Hotel took an unusual step in the South African hotel scene. They opened their ground floor to the nearby square and integrated a few uncommon features to the Cape Town hotel scene. It results in rebranding the major part of the ground floor as ‘The Square Café & Wine Bar’.

Drawn from the hotels joint CEO’s, Gary Koetser and Glyn Taylor’s, business tradition, they’ve taken their generous hospitality know how to a new level of flowing offerings.

The sophisticated, relaxed dining experience for breakfast, opens up to the surrounding business professionals. What is usually an unclosed dining room in the rest of the day for other hotels transforms into a buzzing space every lunch time with setting the daily Harvest Table.

The Harvest Table offers handmade seasonal dishes, salads and fresh cut fruit & veg that can be eaten at the café or be taken away. The offering is complimented with freshly made sandwiches and wraps for those on the run. Throughout the day the café offers a gastropub menu that compliments the other features in the space- the large Gin Bar and the exposed glass Wine Cellar.

While ticking all the necessary boxes on the beverage menu, the bar also stocks a well picked selection of locally crafted beers from around the Cape and an impressive selection of newly crafted Gins that speaks for this thriving niche industry in Cape Town.

Innovation continues in the wine cellar and with the wine list. A specially imported preserving system, called ‘Le Verre de Vin’ was brought from France. ‘Le Verre de Vin’ is the only wine preservation system capable of effectively preserving an unlimited number of still, sparkling and fortified wines, for up to 3 weeks.

That allows the Wine Sommelier to offer 60% of the selection to be tasted or drunk by the glass, from Champagne all the way to the finest red wines. With a locally developed new technology, guests no longer need to read from a wine list but can make their selection from a new application on a tablet at the restaurant & wine bar.

The app allows guests to peruse the wine list by either varietal, region or price and offers guests the opportunity to learn more about each region, from terroir to local attractions. Once the order is placed, the restaurant ensures the wine is ready to enjoy as guests arrive at their table. Alternatively, the in-house sommelier is on hand to enhance the dining experience and guests are welcomed into the private cellar to view the vast selection of wines for themselves and to taste some on offer before making their choice.

The exposed glass cellar contains novel choices of cultivars sourced from a wide range of regions with a large selection of unusual blends such as Bukettraube, Carignan, Gewurstraminer, Grenache, Gruner Veltliner, Mourvedre, Nebbiolo and Rousanne and Halal certified wine, to name a few. There is a fine balance between established and new labels and the price range is what makes this wine list so appealing. Ranging from R125 to R700 (per bottle), the wines are clearly marked and easy to navigate.

The sommelier will gladly walk you through some exciting wine & food pairings of different vertical tastings that allows guests to learn and compare the differences between wine routes, terroirs and wine verities.

The Square Cafe & Wine Bar at the CC Hotel is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Private food & wine pairings must be booked in advance.
