Being locals and enjoying the benefits and splendor of life in a well-established and rightfully deserved international destination, it sometimes makes us disregard the milestones that brought us here. Just like looking for the traditional French Bistro or a third generation Italian Trattoria, Cape Town holds some great seafood restaurants that we tend to take for granted.
The Lookout Deck in Hout Bay holds a long standing high position on the list of those iconic establishments. Situated in the heart of the small harbour, which is also an exit point for local fishermen and tours to seal island, they always benefit from the latest and freshest catch.
The venue itself, as the name states, is a series of decks looking onto the marina, the bay and the starting point of Chapmans Peak Road. Indoor seating is formal and cushioned with bright ocean themed colours. The outside decks are made for family and friends to feel comfortable, rub shoulders, engage in conversation and share food. A smaller deck and some seating on the large bar is available for a quick bite or drink.
The atmosphere is complemented with live bands over weekends that will keep you entertained, comfortable and staying longer than for just the meal itself.
The menu offers premium seafood, oysters and sushi and an outdoor pizza oven that delivers fresh tastes on thin bases. Seafood options include classics like their take on Ritz shrimp, generous tuna steaks and a large selection of local fish dishes. Sushi has a full separate menu that in addition to the rolls, offers matching salads and warm Japanese inspired dishes.
The variety of local wines offer a good selection of ‘wine by the glass’ that practically gets you a Winelands tour at your table. The selection of drafts and craft beer varieties will satisfy any beer aficionado.
