A “sundowner” is a drink taken at sundown, preferably whilst watching the sun slowly disappearing into the Atlantic Ocean.

There are only a few places in Cape Town where one can do that in style and the terrace of Harveys restaurant at the Winchester Mansions hotel is one of them.  Bistro by day and restaurant by night, Harveys offers guests South African cuisine with a European twist.

Del Mar is a Camps Bay favourite, with a modern Mexican menu that will have you salivating just reading what’s on offer. Everything sounds delicious and lives up to expectations. The menu boasts a modern twist on Mexican classics like tacos and tortillas – some soft; others crispy, depending on your order. The chimichanga, for example, is a crispy tortilla stuffed with pork and guacamole with rojo rice – a delightful mix of flavours that goes down well with their black bean dip. This is offered up by the waiter alongside a bowl of tortilla chips while you wait for your order to arrive.

Cool down that all over body blush by sipping a deliciously icy cocktail with an unpronounceable name. Wink and clink your way across the deck and take your table at the very edge of the continent. Breathe in. Yes. This is your life.

To envisage the décor imagine Donna Karan marooned on an island with nothing but a chandelier and an axe. Baroque clashes with the Mediterranean and the bleach blonde exterior gives way to bare-skin opulence within. Curl up on a cushioned bench with your ex, or flaunt your latest on the sun dappled deck.
