UNDER THE SUN
Taking up over a block in the heart of Cape Town central, the Tsogo Sun group aimed to create a well worth destination in the city. Situated on a visible spot on the corners of Buitengracht, Strand and Bree Street, they rebuilt almost the entire block, raised two adjoining hotels, the Sun Square and a Stay Easy and restored to its former glory, the traditional Victorian buildings on the corner of Buitengracht and Castle Street.
This exposed, attention drawing location created the opportunity to go beyond the call of duty and Tsogo Sun rose up to the challenge by embedding two features that will cater for guests and day visitors alike.
On the street level one will find the Vigour & Verve restaurant. An all-day eatery headed by Chef Marlene Makinson.
Chef Marlene, who grew up to her position from starting as a waitress in the tourism industry more than 20 years ago and carved her way up to the position of Executive Chef, brings her passion and love for food, people and Cape Town culinary heritage into the menus she designs.
The all-day menu is an anthology of South African favourites from any house hold daily menu, designed to familiarize patrons to the Capetonian taste and local cuisine. You will come to meet braai broodjies – the South African version of toasties, hot prego rolls, boerie rolls – our version of hot dog but ohh… so different, burgers and pizzas, all with a South African interpretation.
Lunch and dinner menus are going a step further. To put it in one sentence, it’s a deconstruction and reassembling of classic local dishes. You will find representatives to any major South African kitchen or way of cooking, all modified to a fine dining experience.
Seafood, Braai, Shisa Nyama, Slaai, Pickled Fish, Cape Malay and slow roast Ouma’s way. For you not to miss any part of the experience, take a seat in front of the open kitchen and watch the orchestrated work that is made in its way to deliver your desire.
With drawing it all from our diverse culture, you might even pick some new words along the way.
The experience concludes with the Harvest Table- a generous dessert table, stocked throughout the day with both local and international favourites.
The other feature is the 14 Storeys Rooftop Bar. Situated above the buzzing city with views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill and the Cape Town Harbour, it is a charming location to enjoy a light menu of casual snacks and cocktails. Either watching a sunset or enjoying an evening breeze, it is an intimate, modern chic place to inhale the city.
